i wear a headset at work.

thatabbygirlyeah, that's right. i wear a headset at work to talk on the phone. it's super dorky. it makes me look like an agent. but oh my goodness, it is so convenient! it leaves my hands free to look up silly websites when the child care resource center puts me on hold for 12 minutes (i have a timer on my phone so i can tell for how long i'm being ignored). i can continue typing letters to clients while i chat with a friend on the phone. and considering how much of my work i do on the phone, it's a godsend.
when i first got to work and saw that my phone had a headset only, not handset, i was dismayed. i didn't want to be the dorky girl wearing the headphones with the floppy attached mike thingie. but i soon came to love the headset. i wish i had one for my phone at home, for ease with typing or chopping while on the phone.
this week, though, i've discovered a few drawbacks to the headset. my love for it has faded--not a lot, but still faded. i've been listening to music at work while i do long bits of research or writing. since i share an office, using headphones is mandatory. when the phone rings mid-song, whipping off the headphones and slamming on the headset is a very complicated maneuver. just pushing the headphones down around my neck doesn't work either--it just results in a horrible tangle of wires and earpieces.
today my officemate is out of town (going to hawaii, the slut), so i'm playing music through speakers. but i've discovered another thing with which headsets don't work too well: pigtails. it's pulling all these wispys out of my cute braided pigtails (i'm taking casual friday pretty seriousy today) and making me look downright disheveled. intolerable!
